Very Old Patients on Hemodialysis: How They Start and Can We Predict Survival?
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Background: We describe circumstances of dialysis initiation, dialysis prescription and factors affecting survival in elderly patients. Methods: We included all incident patients ≥ 80 years old from a National Registry for which clinical and laboratory data at dialysis initiation could retrospectively be obtained. Results: Of 170 patients included, 24% had diabetes, 30% ischemic heart disease, 13% peripheral arterial disease, 15% active malignancy and 60% prior nephrology care. Mean creatinine was 672 ± 225 μmol/l, eGFR 7.3 ± 3.7 ml/ min/1.73 m 2 , 81% started dialysis in hospital and 78% with a catheter. 32% had <2 sessions/week and 29% had singleneedle dialysis. One-year survival was 74% (median 26 months). In multivariate analysis only age (HR 1.10) and prior nephrology care (HR 0.48) were significant predictors of survival. Conclusions: The majority of elderly patients started dialysis with a catheter and in hospital setting. We estimate observed survival as good. Only age and prior nephrology care were independent predictors of survival. Video Journal Club ‘Cappuccino with Claudio Ronco’ at www. karger.com/?doi=367681. © 2014 S. متن کاملFive-year survival rate and factors affecting the survival of hemodialysis patients
Introduction: Survival rate is important in chronic kidney disease patients due to their dependence on hemodialysis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the survival rate of five- years and factors affecting the survival of hemodialysis patients. Materials and Methods: This historical cohort study was performed in 60 hemodialysis patients admitted to Kamyaran Sina Hospital (Iran). ...
متن کاملPeritoneal dialysis is not a superior therapy to hemodialysis: a comparison.
After initial reports suggesting that patients initiating peritoneal dialysis (PD) had better survival than patients on conventional dialysis in the first year, many investigators have scrutinized the existing databases to determine the reasons for this apparent difference. It is clear that patients starting on PD are selected - they are younger and have less comorbidity compared to the general...
متن کاملI-11: Cryopreservation and Utilization of Ovarian Tissue: When, Where and How?
In women, around 10% of cancers occur in those younger than 45 years old. Although aggressive chemotherapy/radiotherapy and bone marrow transplantation can cure more than 90% of girls and young women affected by disorders requiring such treatment, the ovaries are very sensitive to cytotoxic drugs, especially to alkylating agents. Therefore, these treatments can result in premature ovarian failu...

Background and Aim: Hemodialysis is the most common procedure which is performed for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. Furthermore, vascular access is an important aspect of hemodialysis treatment, provided for patients with ESRD. There are different reports on the prevalence and survival of vascular access. In this study we report the prevalence and survival probability of vascular ...
